Twitter or a virtual motivational running club

Twitfam

This week  was supposed to be my first full week of training for this month with a really long run Wednesday, double run Thursday and finished off with a quickie on Friday. Sadly I could not do my long run on Wednesday due to work commitments :-(

So I had to change my approach and I planned to make my 3 runs count. Thursday morning I did my first run lasting just over 2 hours covering 14.8 miles with an avg pace of 8:18min/mile. I was happy with this run as I ran over a few hills and pushed a little to see what I can do resulting in running close ish to my half marathon pace.

After a  break of 4 hours I went out for another run. I decided to start it with a 3x10min interval session and running up my favourite hill. It starts off with an uphill run followed by a steep down hill just to run uphill again before gently running downhill to my starting/finishing point. This run was hard as my legs were sore and stiff from my first run and I could not  get them moving properly but decided to push on anyway. The aim was to run 1:30 hr or at least 10 miles but I could only manage 8 miles as my legs were gone and my tank was running on empty. I gave it my all and then some but still was unhappy with my overall performance and felt down for a bit as I thought I wasted a great training opportunity.

However once I read the positive responses I got from my Twitfam I started to feel happier and a little proud of my runs as they were good apparently :-)

This Twitter experience made me believe even more in my theory that Twitter is a virtual running club in which there is friendly competition with a lot of support and encouragement. I feel on Twitter the motto seems to be "One for all and all for one!" and you do not realise how much that helps you to achieve your goal until you need it.

My last run was a 5x3,2,1minute interval session. It was hard going as my legs remained stiff and sore, I was happy with my performance despite it not being overly quick or long as I gave it my all and had to be sensible as I was starting my night shifts that night.

So all in all it was a good training week and set me up nicely for next week/month which I will start with a week of short fast runs due to time constraints....
